Welcoming 2014 with open arms !!

I hope these festive holidays have been a good one for you and yours , however you celebrate it . Our family have had a lovely low key Christmas and we are all in a very happy relaxed place right now . My hubby asked me a couple of weeks before Christmas  what I would like for as a present this year  , to which my reply was " rest , that's all I want  rest  " . I have got exactly what I wanted , it took me a while to wind down and I was very fidgety for my first week off . But now I have my old relaxed ( but occupied with hobbies ) pace of life . I will never be a person that can just sit , I always need to have my hands occupied but that is my natural happy state . I have disconnected myself from technology as much as I could and packed all my work out of sight and embraced the space in my daily life this has created . I have been able to spend time with my thoughts and think and plan , boy that has been good for me !! I actually feel mentally refreshed as well as physically rested and my energy levels  renewed . I feel excited about 2014 but I am also aware I have to keep balance in my life , so that is my New Years resolution to find balance in my life .

It feels good to be on the first day of a new year , it feels to me a bit like the feeling I get when I get a new sketch book . It feels special and new and full of possibilities . When I get a new sketch book the first page is always important to me , I'm quite superstitious that way , if I  make a mistake on my first page  I cannot use the rest of the book and abandon it for a new one . But life isn't that simple but it has been important for me to see out the old year and see in the new year in a way that felt right  . So New Years Eve saw me , Mr P and the boys snuggled up quietly at home , I had my crochet at my side as well a little tipple and once the boys were in bed we watched a spooky ghost story . A low key night of cosiness , just how we like it !!

I have found time to start working on some much neglected projects which I am going to find time to carry on working on , as it is so relaxing working on these projects . I've been working on a project which you may recognise as I have posted about this blanket project before . A friend gave me a very large bag of Tapestry wools as she new  I would find a use for it and yes I did !! I started making little round at first which then led to me turning them into square and this is how the project is developing .

I'm loving using all the yummy colours in interesting combinations , which is not normally  possible  if using balls off wool as it would cost a small fortune to to play with this many colours .

Another project I've been working on  for a few months now and it  has been a very on and off project , is this Shawl . I had a real erge to make something for myself in greys and yellow . Usually I would shy away from yellow on something to wear but I had a really strong need to use it and here's what I've come up with . I got the initial pattern from Ravelry and it was a use up your stash project for a stripy shawl . It is an American pattern which is free and as soon as I find the pattern I will edit the details into this post . I'm making slow progress but am happy with how it is turning out and would like to be wearing it by spring .

In the last few days I have started easing my self back into my creative work life which I am very excited about and have started to make my mill mice shawls , there is going to be a new addition to this range but I can say no more.  but the thought of it makes me feel soooo giddy !!
What a lovely time I've had this afternoon blogging it makes me so happy when I pop by , the best sort of therapy .
I hope you've found time over the holidays to do something you've really wanted to do and lets embrace 2014 with open arms , it's the first page of a new sketch book just waiting to be filled with whatever we create .

Thanks for taking the time to pop by and ta ta for now . Tracy xxxx

Happy New Year to you too , I am feeling good as this year starts which I'm taking as a good omen . I will stay mind full of keeping things in balance and also be kinder to my self and not push myself so hard . It is not a productive or healthy way to live a life and I am very aware of that . I hope you have a creative 2014 with regards Tracy

    1. Hi Kepanie
Happy New Year to you and your family , oh yes I'm all rested up !!
I too like the dark grey and the way it works with the bright centres , I'm not one for having lots of vivid colour . I can work with strong colours if used as accents and counter balancing them with a colour that visually tones them down . I'm looking forward to the finished blanket .
Thanks for taking the time to pop by Kepanie I really appreciate it.

  11. You are a doer...not a sitting about person aren't you ? Don't fall back into the trap , Tracy. It's about pace, not just balance. I love all your of lovely makes. I can see the hours that you must put in. So tempting when you want to get something finished ! Yarndale seems a long time ago now. What a lovely day that was. Happy New Year, from Caz.

  12. Hi Caz
yes your right it is about pace as well as balance , if I can get the balance right I don't need to push my self so hard . I have set myself a new working week time table and am going to stick to it . My makes will get made when they get made as I set the pace . I have realised I am my own worst enemy when it come to deadlines as it's me who sets them !! I've had a lot of thinking time which has been good to sort my head out .
Yarndale does seem an age ago and I'm going to enjoy being a visitor this year .
Happy New year Caz and thanks for taking the time to pop by and leave a comment it really means a lot to me.

  16. Hi Tracy,
So glad you're feeling rested, and have had time to reflect & chill out, after all I would hate it if you worked too hard & then lost the enjoyment of what you do. I'm looking forward to seeing some more Mill mice. I spent a long time looking up my Family Tree, I found a number of my Ancestors came from Middleton, nr Manchester & all worked in one of the hundreds of mills. So when I saw your first Mill Mouse, it brought a smile to my face, as I had a vision of my Grt grt grandmother setting off to work at the Mill, wearing clogs & a woollen shawl! Well I hope you have a very Happy New Year in 2014. Kind regards Claire. xx

  19. Happy New Year Tracy. So pleased that you managed to have a restful time over Christmas, it is so easy to get worn to a frazzle in the weeks leading up to it. I am looking forward to seeing your new creations especially the Mill Mice, I love them I could easily become a collector of mice, although with a garden shed full of wood mice I think I already am. Kind regards, Pat.

  20. Happy New Year Tracy! Love the shawl and can't wait to see the new make. Sounds like you have had a lovely restful time. You sound excited about the year ahead which is a good place to be ;)
Iona LoVeD her ginger bread man I made her. As I got near the end I hid it from her as a surprise. He's quite fat as she wanted to cuddle him rather than hang him up. Have a brill 2014 Tracy.

  23. Happy New Year Tracy x A bit like you I found myself frazzled by the time Christmas came and vowed that over the holidays I would have family time. I've also started a blanket but mine is an order for a friend so I'm working to time again! I haven't ventured into blogland for quite a while and so this evening have spent it happily reading your blog posts for the last year. I'm off to the supermarket tomorrow for a much needed batch of ingredients for some home baking (hmmm cinnamon crumble loaf). Hopefully I will be able to gain inspiration on my own blog and start my new sketch pad. Wendy x

Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to start my own knit n stitch group after visiting you and your lovely group when I came to visit for Yarndale. Will let you know how it goes!
